A music bar & community space.

220 High Street
Northcote VIC

Tues - Fri: 4pm to 1am
Sat - Sun: 1pm to 1am

High Note — a music bar & venue for the community set over two adjoining spaces at the base of the heritage Northcote Theatre.

In Space 1 sits our bar. A reliable watering-hole with a modest but thoughtful list of quality whistle-wetters, alongside a rotation of snacks and local fare from our High St neighbours.

In Space 2 – a shapeshifting room that mirrors our city’s creative community. You might find a neighbourhood dance with local or international DJs, an intimate live performance, creative lectures or workshops;  even an exhibition or record fair.

High Note’s sonic kit-out holds a special piece of hifi folklore. With proper craftsmanship, infamous local audio nerd Umut Turkeri reincarnated Altec horns that once graced the Sydney Opera House; restored them to former glory; and has housed them throughout our venue inside cabinets inspired by Altec’s ‘Voice of the Theatre’. As a cherry on top, every tune passes through a special edition Condesa mixer by Mehdi El-Aquil, so expect the sound to be equal parts serious and spiritual.

On the programming tip, Crown Ruler are in the hot seat and intend to stay consistent with their past two decades. High Note is cued up to host selectors, live acts and music-adjacent biz that stays indiscriminate in style; layers well-known and unknown; spans from cruisy to heaving; and combines old school with fresh out the house — but always stays soulful.
